Ice Spice came out of nowhere and took the game over, a year ago. Her lifelong dream was to get a co-sign from Nicki Minaj. Not only did she get the co-sign, but also, she got Nicki to take her under her wing. The success of Ice Spice is a continuation of female rappers dominating the game. This year, many female rappers have taken over. But, as the year comes to a close, Ice Spice is finishing things out, doing her thing at the Jingle Ball in Atlanta.
Ice Spice made a name for herself, coming out of The Bronx. With her single, “Munch,” she made a huge impact. She caught the attention of several major industry players. Among them was Nicki Minaj, her idol, and Drake. However, she ended up continuing to push her music, without the heavy reliance on features. Despite this, she did manage to get a Nicki Minaj feature, and that added to her overall momentum.
Ice Spice had to share the spotlight with several female rappers in 2023. Overall, this has been good for the diversity within hip hop. Each of the women dominating the game have a lane that they occupy all by themselves. As a result, none of these new era female rappers can accuse the other of stealing their styles. Instead, they all have lanes all to themselves. At the Jingle Ball in Atlanta, Ice Spice was in her element. She took over, when she turned around and started twerking for the crowd.
