FRIENDS fans rejoice…the Rachel Rack is well and truly back.
We’re seeing a resurgence of #freethenipple – a throwback to when Jennifer Aniston’s character Rachel Green was all over the campaign in the sitcom, and long before it was even a ‘thing’.
Fans everywhere were left puzzled as to why her nipples made SO many appearances but the ‘Rachel rack’ was – and still is – legendary.
Theories are mixed – some say the wardrobe team cut holes in her bras to make her nipples show through while others assumed it was Jennifer’s personal preference.
One fan tweeted in 2015: “Did you know that Friends’ producers told Rachel and Monica to cut holes in their bras to show their nipples?”
Either way, fast forward to 2023 and the look is having its heyday.
A-listers, reality stars and presenters are ditching the bra this winter – and in true Rachel style, they’re leaving little to the imagination when they do.
From Kendall Jenner, to Alex Scott, Demi Moore and Kim Kardashian a whole host of big names are tapping into the trend whether that’s with braless selfies, raunchy red-carpet reveals or simply pictured out and about.
I do not blame her one bit!
Reddit fan
Heads turned when Kendall Jenner turned up braless beneath a tight red dress at the third Annual Academy Museum Gala in LA.
The high-neck number which showed off her slim waist left little to the imagination and fans flocked to Reddit to share their approval.
One wrote: “She loves showing off those boobs and I do not blame her one bit!”
Love for freeing the nipple runs in the family.
So much so Kendall’s sister Kim Kardashian launched the Ultimate Nipple Bra which comes with built in nipples and bears the slogan: “No matter how hot it is you will always look cold”, adding fuel to the free the nipple fire.
Even snaps of sports presenter Alex Scott went viral recently after she gave her nipples the red carpet debut at the GQ Men Of The Year Awards.
The 39-year-old former footballer wore nothing but a see-through sparkling dress finished off with slicked back hair and bronzed makeup.
It’s the freedom that people are scared of; the fact I’m comfortable and happy.
Florence Pugh
Many other women hailed the move and suggested in comments that “we should all be doing the same.”
But that doesn’t stop the criticism.
Actress Florence Pugh came out fighting when she received backlash after freeing her nipples in a bright pink dress.
The 24 year old was body-shamed for showing off her boobs under a sheer Valentino dress but spoke candidly about how her body was subject to scrutiny in an interview with Elle.
She said: “It’s the freedom that people are scared of; the fact I’m comfortable and happy.
“Keeping women down by commenting on their bodies has worked for a very long time.”
Radio host Amanda Holden has always been an advocate for body positivity and she is another famous face who is regularly freeing the nipple – even in the cold winter months.
Laughing off photographers’ attention she’s admitted how she gets her ‘tired old breasts’ out on purpose.
She paired the figure-hugging dress with a small Louis Vuitton clutch bag and nude heels as she tried to keep dry from the rain in London.
Helen Flanagan is also a free the nipple advocate but is no stranger to hateful comments.
Trolls have cruelly shamed the 33 year old for “looking too sexy” and her Instagram pictures being too “inappropriate.”
But that doesn’t phase the mum of three, and she continues to share pictures of herself wearing tops without bra.
Olivia Attwood, Megan Fox, Emily Ratajkowski and Lillyrose Depp have all embraced the trend too.
And it seems to be a trend that shows no signs of slowing.
Love it or loathe it, as Monica once said: “Welcome to the real world. It sucks. You’re gonna love it.”
