Mandana Karimi opens up on Iran hijab row
Mandana Karimi left her home in Iran at 19 and found success in the Indian film industry. However, the actress is well aware of the atrocities being committed in the Middle Easter Country, and the recent hijab row which saw a woman die.

The actress has now opened up on the situation back home which prompted her to leave in the first place, her family that is still back there and her thoughts on the recent controversies in the country.

Writing for ETimes, Mandana stated she left at 19 from Iran without knowing any language apart from Farsi and without much money, before going on to question, ” Why would anyone leave their family, their country”?

The actress went on to reveal she did not want to live ina place where she could not breathe, think twice before stepping pout, or think about who she is hanging out with, what she can study or what she could wear to not get arrested by the morality police.

Talking about the incident of the 22-year-old Mahsa Amini, a Kurdish girl, visiting Tehran, who got arrested for not wearing a scarf and subsquently died, Mandana stated, “I think this is a fight for human rights and women’s equality. We are asking for our right to wear what we want and not get abused or killed. This is not about the hijab or Islam. This is about our rights as women. Whether we want to wear a scarf or not should be our choice, not anyone else’s.”
According to the former Bigg Boss contestant, urged people to write to their own governments and ask why the Iran consulate is allowed in countries like UK when the British government does not have one in Iran.

The actress also opened up on how her two brothers and mom is still back in Iran and how her mother is terrified of what is happening there.
