Pierre Gasly has found himself to be in a difficult position amidst the season’s end. The penalty point system laid down by the FIA has rules that hold the power to suspend a driver from a race. And in the recent light of events, Pierre Gasly is merely 2 points away from being suspended.

Pierre Gasly currently holds 10 penalty points, and even though there are only two races to go this year, the Frenchman’s problems do not end there. The way that this penalty point system work is that these current points will carry forward until halfway through next year. This means Pierre Gasly cannot afford to get 2 more points up until the month of May 2023, if he doesn’t want to miss a race.

Many suggest that the point system is rather unfair. A driver can be accountable for gaining 2 penalty points for crashing into a driver as well as for speeding during the yellow flag in a race.
A few F1 drivers empathized with the Frenchman. As per Auto, Motor und Sport, Mercedes’ George Russell came to Pierre’s rescue. He said, “Sometimes the punishment does not match the crime. This is the case with Pierre. There should only be penalty points for reckless and dangerous driving.”
Twitter is upset as the news broke out and plenty stepped up in Pierre’s defense. They weren’t afraid to point fingers at the F1 authority.

Twitter was furious as to how unfair the rules of the F1 point system were. They believe that FIA would be the doom of the entire sport. Many were blatant and did not shy away from voicing out their honest opinions. Here’s what Twitter had to say.

The @fia should hang their heads in shame. They punish @PierreGASLY with 2 points on his license and a time penalty and justify it by saying that machines and marshal are permitted on the track under a red flag.
