Katy Perry’s fans joke she’s suffered a glitch after her eye gets stuck during Las Vegas show

She’s normally the constant professional, wowing fans with her impressive moves and stunning vocals.

But Katy Perry’s fans were quick to joke that the usually well-oiled machine suffered a ‘glitch’ on Monday night after her eyelid appeared to get stuck during her Las Vegas residency.

In footage which has been uploaded to TikTok, the singer, 38, could be seen struggling to open one of her eyes in the middle of the show, with many users quipping she suffered a ‘mechanical failure.’

Dressed in her can-inspired silver leotard, Katy was in the middle of her Vegas show when one of her eyelids appeared to be stuck, leaving the star struggling to open her right eye.

The Roar hitmaker briefly paused her performance being eventually being able to open her right eye again, and she then continued with her show.

The moment, which was captured by a member of the audience who then uploaded it to social media, sparked a flurry of comments from fans joking that Katy had suffered some kind of technical glitch. 

However one rational user was quick to suggest that it may have been caused by Katy’s false eyelashes getting stuck to the bottom of her eye. 

One jokingly commented: ‘Clone failure. Next time make sure all software are updated and make necessary patches.’

Another added: ‘She was downloading the song,’ while a third posted: ‘The robot had a glitch.’

One fan went onto comment: ‘Mechanical failure, she even presses that button to keep it open.’

But then one of Katy’s followers was quick to clarify: ‘Lol it’s her eyelash glue getting stuck to her bottom lid, happens to me all the time.’

Katy began her Play residency in Las Vegas in December 2021, and quickly earned rave reviews for the ‘highly camp’ show which sees Perry emerge from a giant toilet and converse with a talking mask.

It comes after the hitmaker, who shares daughter Daisy Dove, two, with her fiancé Orlando Bloom, recently joked that she often gets mistaken for herself when attending mother and baby classes with her daughter – other mothers in the group say she ‘looks just like Katy Perry.’ 

Speaking to The Cut on Monday, the hitmaker revealed that she frequently gets recognised but is usually ‘long gone’ by the time people realise. 

Katy explained: ‘We do a lot of mommy-and-me classes. This morning, I was with her at a ballet class, and this woman goes, ‘Oh my god, you look so much like Katy Perry.’

‘And I was like, ‘Hi, nice to meet you. I care about my kid and take her to classes’, I’ve become a member at all the museums – we go to the zoo, the Natural History Museum, the kids’ museum. That’s my new club.

‘People do recognise me, but by the time they’re like, ”Is that…? Was that…?” I’m already gone.’

Last year Katy candidly revealed she used to pretend to be Zooey Deschanel when she was ‘broke’ and first moved to Los Angeles 18 years ago.

Comparisons have long been drawn between the singer and the actress’ physical likeness – with Katy admitting she had no trouble getting people to believe she was Zooey to gain exclusive access to clubs.

Their similarities were used to their advantage once again recently, as Zooey starred in Katy’s music video for her single Not The End Of The World as she is abducted by aliens who confuse her for the hitmaker.

Katy and Zooey recently discussed Katy’s past antics and the new video on Instagram Live, as Katy also apologised for ‘misrepresenting’ Zooey with her wildness while out pretending to be her. 

Speaking to Zooey on Instagram Live, Katy said: ‘When I moved to L.A. maybe 18 years ago… I was pretty much a nobody, and you were like just getting so huge at that time, it was like Zooey Deschanel ran the world.

‘In that moment, I was so complimented to look like you.

‘But I have to admit something to you. When I first got to L.A., I went to the club. A lot. And I wanted to get into the club, but I had no money, I had no clout, I had nothing, and sometimes I would pose as you to get into the club.’
